Subchapter: Spine (Read entire chapter)

Diagnosis: Chance fracture (seatbelt fracture) CT
Sagittal CT of the lumbar spine in bone window demonstrates ankylosis of the vertebral bodies at all visualized levels due to calcified syndesmophytes, with squaring of the vertebral bodies, which is a typical feature of ankylosing spondylitis. A horizontal fracture line is seen extending through the upper L3 vertebral body, the left L3 pedicle, and superior right L3 facet. The ankylosed spine in ankylosing spondylitis is prone to fracture even in minor traumas. (C and D = magnified views of A and B)
