Diagnosis: Alanto-occipital dissociation
Lateral radiograph of the cervical spine shows distraction of the alanto-occipital junction (double arrow) with superior displacement of the calvarium. The black line demonstrates the inferior margin of the occiput. Atlanto-occipital dissociation can be missed up to 50% of initial radiographs.
