Subchapter: Neck (Read entire chapter)
Diagnosis: Precarotid abscessContrast enhanced CT of the neck demonstrates a 1.8 x 1.6 x 3.2 cm rim enhancing lesion with a low attenuation center in the right pre-carotid space (arrows), compatible with an abscess. Differential diagnosis would also include a necrotid lymph node. The abscess causes moderate mass effect on the right jugular vein (J) posteriorly. Important to check if the carotid arteries (C) and jugular veins are patent and demonstrate normal contrast enhancement. (In this case they do) D = magnification of the axial view (C), E = magnification of the coronal view (A).
