Chapter: Abdomen & Pelvis

Subchapter: Kidneys & Urinary tract (Read entire chapter)

Diagnosis: Obstructing mid ureter stone
Noncontrast CT of the abdomen (stone protocol, upper image row) demonstrates a 7 x 6 by 12-mm calculus (black arrow) within the mid right ureter (white arrows) causing moderate hydroureteronephrosis (asterisk). Compare the size of the dilated right ureter proximal to the obstructing calculus with the collapsed left ureter (dotted arrows). An ultrasound of the kidneys in the same patient (lower image) demonstrates moderate to severe dilatation of the right renal collecting system (asterisk), ureteropelvic junction (dotted arrow) as well as the proximal ureter (full arrow).
